The Berlin Philharmonic String Quintet is unique in its instrumentation: instead of enlarging the string quartet with an additional viola or cello, the ensemble is completed by adding a double bass.Here, all five string sections of the orchestra are represented.

The ensemble thereby crosses the boundaries of a purely chamber music setting towards a formation with symphonic dimensions. Even if the quintet performs a number of arrangements because of a lack of original works for their specific instrumentation, the musicians deliberately chose the setting: “Based on our experience, the compositions gain tremendously in breadth of sound.”

The Berlin Philharmonic String Quintet emerged from the longstanding collaboration between Wolfgang Talirz and Romano Tommasini with the cellist Tatjana Vassiljeva. Their first concert was given in February 2007 in Belgium. With great success!Within a relatively short period of time it advanced to a popular ensemble, meanwhile guesting in the whole of Europe and Japan.

Luiz Filipe Coelho  In 2007 and 2008, Luiz Filipe Coelho was a student of the Orchestra Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker. From 2009, he had short term contracts playing in the first and second violin sections before becoming a regular member of the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2012. Luiz Filipe Coelho is a several times winner of the German Musical Instruments Fund competition of the German Foundation for Musical Life, and since February 2007 has played a Lornezo Storioni

Romano Tommasini is the son of Italian parents and grew up in Luxemburg and France. He completed his musical studies in 1983 in Paris. After being first concertmaster in the Nancy Orchestra, he became a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1989.

Wolfgang Talirz has been a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra since 1983 and has been actively involved in many chamber music formations of the orchestra, for which he has received many distinctions.

Tatjana Vassiljeva  is one of the best and most well-known among the young cellists and has performed with such names as Claudio Abbado, Mstislav Rostropovich, Krzysztof Penderecki, Guidon Kremer etc.

雅努什·韦德兹克，刚开始学习钢琴课程，在 13 岁的时候开始演奏低音提琴。他在克拉科夫的音乐学院学习并且在 1996 年在科隆音乐学院继续他的学业。在 1997 年他在波恩贝多芬交响乐团担任首席低音提琴，并在三年后，雅努什·韦德兹克在北德广播交响乐团担任同样的位置。从2001 年开始，他已经成为柏林爱乐低音提琴的一员。韦德兹克是一名活跃的室内乐演奏家，并常与到乐团里的同事参与到柏林爱乐艺术小组。他也在多个国家的音乐会上作为一名独奏家进行演奏。

Janusz Widzyk, first took piano lessons and was 13 when he began playing the double bass. He studied at the music academy in Kraków and in 1996 continued his training at the Cologne Musikhochschule. In 1997 the Bonn Beethovenhalle Orchestra engaged him as a principal bass, and three years later Janusz Widzyk took over the same position with the Hamburg Radio (NDR) Symphony

Orchestra. Since 2001 he has been part of the doublebass section of the Berliner Philharmoniker. Widzyk is active as a chamber player with colleagues from the orchestra in the Berlin Philharmonic Camerata. He also appears as a concert soloist in many countries.
