《命运之舞》是一部融合了爱尔兰经典音乐和舞蹈的踢踏舞剧。从1994首演开始，只是一部定位于小型剧院和俱乐部的音乐舞蹈演出，由于演出非常成功，演出规模越来越大，演出内容和形式逐渐发生变化，并最终发展成为一台大型的踢踏舞剧。1999年，《命运之舞》在新西兰正式开启了世界巡演的旅程。

《命运之舞》的创始人是爱尔兰作曲家和音乐家迈克尔·德坎（Michael Durkan）。舞剧最初的故事情节是讲述兄弟三人在村庄被毁坏，之后各自离乡背井的故事。由于故事情节过于复杂，舞剧由编舞理查德·格里芬（Richard Griffin）和作曲家寇姆·欧弗赫鲁（Colm O Foghlu）重新改编成了两个年轻恋人的爱情故事。

洛肯和爱诗琳，一对深爱着彼此的恋人，却不知命运之手无形中正摆弄着他俩。虽然对对方的爱固若盘石，但面对着周围反对的声浪，他俩要如何摆脱命运的捉弄，坚持心中所爱呢？ 命运之舞，宛如罗密欧与朱丽叶般浪漫的爱情故事，在爱尔兰踢踏舞的衬托下展开了序幕…

舞蹈

《命运之舞》等同于爱尔兰踢踏舞？并不是！爱尔兰踢踏舞是一种爱尔兰民族的传统艺术形式。踢踏舞是爱尔兰的特色，更是爱尔兰的国粹。它结合了艺术的表演、优雅的舞蹈动作与舞者惊人的体能。爱尔兰舞者在跳爱尔兰舞时，双手自然下垂，贴于髋部，下半身双脚总是保持交叉的姿势（45 度）。 在《命运之舞》中，舞者对传统的爱尔兰踢踏舞进行了改进——传统的爱尔兰踢踏舞中只有下半身的动作，上半身保持不变，而在《命运之舞》中舞者的上半身也会有些许的动作。

此外，爱尔兰式踢踏又有软鞋及硬鞋的分别，在软鞋舞方面，男生与女生所跳的是不同的，因为软鞋舞男女生的鞋子不同，女生方面有点像是芭蕾舞鞋，不会发出声响，而男生的鞋后跟部分则是硬的，所以可以发出声音。

音乐

《命运之舞》中的音乐独特而令人印象深刻，热烈奔放与深情动人并存：悠扬苍凉的爱尔兰风笛延续着古老的情怀，激扬的小提琴挑动着每一根敏感的心弦。还有那行云流水般的、如同天籁之音的人声吟唱，就像早春的清晨那略带凉意的清新空气，可以涤清一切尘世的芜杂与烦扰。器乐和人声无比完美地结合起来，使爱尔兰的传统音乐旋律诞生出了新的灵魂。
